82% of women with disabilities in developing countries live below the poverty line (Elwan 1999). Women with disabilities are more likely to experience high poverty rates because of the socio-economic barriers that they face.
These barriers include low levels of education, limited employment opportunities, inaccessible physical environments and transportation and the unavailability of assistive devices and technologies.
She Achieves is working to empower girls and women with disabilities through the following strategic interventions:
Training of women with disabilities on entrepreneurship and small business management.
Digital skills training for women with disabilities.
Giving small grants to women with disabilities to start their own businesses.
Advocating for full implementation of Persons with Disability Act of 2013 and inclusion of women with disabilities in the employment sector.
Distribution of assistive devices and technology to women with disabilities.
